Privacy
- There is no account. Your vehicles, discounts, favourites and fills stay on your phone.
- To recommend petrol stations, the app sends a point and a fuel, never your garage or your history.
- The app shows Google AdMob ads, with your consent where the law requires it. You can remove them with FuelSpot without ads.
What stays on your phone
This is stored only on your device, not in an account:
- Your vehicles (up to three): which one is active, the tank and the consumption.
- Discount cards, favourites and the history of fills you confirm.
- The starting point if you set it on the map, and the language and theme if you set them in Settings.
Price alerts are also stored on the server so they can be sent (see below). Uninstalling the app deletes everything on the phone. There is no account and no sign-in.
Location
With location permission while using the app, FuelSpot reads the GPS to find nearby petrol stations. If you don't grant it, you can search for an address or set a point on the map. The saved point replaces the GPS until you choose your location again. There is no background tracking.
What leaves your phone
FuelSpot uses its own server on Firebase (Google, project fuel-answer-fb582). Every request carries an App Check token (Play Integrity / App Attest) that confirms it comes from the app. There are no accounts.
- Finding petrol stations: latitude, longitude and fuel. It returns the petrol stations within about 12 km. The destination, the garage and the fill history are not sent.
- Price chart: the station ID and the fuel, for the 30-day chart.
- Favourites and update date: the IDs of the saved stations, to show their price and when it was published. It is not a GPS search.
- Wrong price: the station, the fuel, the €/L you suggest and an anonymous phone ID stored as a hash. It does not change the official price.
- Price alerts: the station, the fuel and the price you choose as the threshold, together with the device's notification token (not an account) and the app language. The server stores that alert and the token (also as a hash) so it can alert you when the official price drops below the threshold. It is deleted when you remove the alert or the token stops being valid, for example when you uninstall.
The calculation of which petrol station suits you (net saving and detour) happens on the phone.
Map, search and routes
- Map tiles: Stadia Maps (OSM Bright style, OpenStreetMap data) in the store versions.
- Nominatim (OpenStreetMap) to search for an address.
- OSRM for the road distance to nearby petrol stations and to draw the route.
Those services see the request (IP, coordinates or search text) under their own policies.
Ads
FuelSpot shows Google AdMob ads to cover costs. We do not keep an advertising profile of you and we do not sell your data.
- In Nearby and in Favourites (when you have any), an ad labelled Advertisement below the list.
- Sometimes a full-screen ad when you come back from the maps app, after asking whether you filled up. Never when you tap Navigate. At most one a day.
- The same ad may appear after every third Search this area in a session, without that daily limit.
Never over the map, the recommendation, Navigate or in Android Auto.
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google UMP shows you a consent form (and on iOS, where applicable, Apple's tracking prompt). You can accept personalised ads, refuse them or change your choice later. If you refuse them, non-personalised ads may still appear.
Depending on your choice and Google's policies, Google may process the advertising ID (AAID / IDFA), the IP, device data and interactions with the ad. The SDK may use an approximate location if the app has location permission. FuelSpot does not send it your garage, your cards or your fills. Google's policies: privacy and ads.
FuelSpot without ads
You can remove the ads with a yearly subscription or a one-time purchase on the App Store or Google Play. The store takes the payment; RevenueCat handles the purchase with an anonymous ID created by the app and the store receipt. There is no account and FuelSpot does not see your payment details. RevenueCat's policy: privacy.
Crashes and usage
Firebase Crashlytics receives reports of unexpected crashes and, if the petrol station search fails, the error code. It carries no user ID, garage or GPS.
Firebase Analytics logs a few events (onboarding finished, search succeeded or failed, Navigate, fill confirmed, search this area). We do not send litres, station or coordinates. It follows the same consent as the ads: if ads cannot be requested, Analytics stays off. Crashlytics stays on for stability.
Prices
Prices are periodic official publications, not the price on the pump right now.
- Spain: MITECO.
- France: Prix des carburants (Licence Ouverte).
- Italy: MIMIT (IODL 2.0), daily file.
- Germany: large cities via MTS-K / Tankerkönig (CC BY 4.0), not the whole country.
- Austria: the cheapest per district (E-Control), not all nearby ones.
- Slovenia: goriva.si.
- Croatia: Ministarstvo, Min2Go.
- Portugal: not active in the public versions.
Retention
What is on your phone lasts until you delete it or uninstall. Searches are request and response; we do not keep a profile. Price alerts (station, fuel, threshold, language and token) are stored on the server until you remove the alert or the token stops being valid.
